Assessment

Do you already have a Data Center and want to make it more reliable, scalable, efficient?

A Data Center must meet some basic criteria:

  • Reliability
  • Scalability
  • The efficiency

These criteria should be taken into account when we begin the design phase of a Data Center.

Gimol is able to adapt Data Centers by giving them top-level features in terms of efficiency, effectiveness and security.

The assesment of each CED’s technology infrastructure follows the guidelines of the Uptime Institute / Ansi Bicsi, the world’s leading data center body.

The Uptime Institute proposes bringing data centers up to the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA)-promoted Reliability Standard TIA-942, hoping to achieve a subset of the necessary requirements provided for sites at the required level.

The interventions that Gimol envisions arise from a precise assessment; they are both technological and organizational in nature and are divided into three time phases.

Short Term

The actions that belong to this first line of intervention can be implemented in the short term, with a reduced economic commitment. These are “low-profile” interventions, but they will achieve energy savings estimated at between 5 percent and 10 percent of current consumption.

A concise list of these interventions is proposed below:

  • operations to “fix the current equipment” with operations on the technical floor, rack cabinets, air conditioning grilles;
  • “Energy regulation” interventions with operations on the air conditioning system;
  • Acquisition of environmental control devices.

Mid Term

The actions that belong to this second line of intervention require a design phase and subsequent procurement of goods and services. Through these actions, current electricity consumption is expected to be significantly reduced (estimated 40% reduction) and energy efficiency will be significantly improved.

A concise list of these interventions is proposed below:

  • Implementation of new thermal insulation of the Data Center rooms, to be carried out by retrofitting the rooms (use of REI 120-certified walls; replacement of calcium silicate technical floor);
  • Consolidation of devices hosted in the different rooms of the Data Center;
  • Acquisition and implementation of environmental monitoring system;
  • acquisition and activation of the new energy-saving, TIER-compliant server room, which will consist of a high-density compartmentalized solution and new chiller devices to cool the solution;
  • Compartmentalization of the different Data Center rooms according to a new layout.

Long Term

The actions that belong to this third line of intervention require a longer implementation time than the previous ones as they are quite complex in themselves.

The following is a concise list of these interventions, which mainly involve the upgrading of electrical and technological systems:

  • Overhaul of the power distribution system;
  • Plant overhaul that ensures electrical continuity.

Completion of this phase will ensure that full TIER compliance is achieved.
